Dumsor looms as Ghana Gas shuts down Atuabo Gas plant for maintenance

The general public has been informed by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) that the gas supply for electricity production has been impacted by maintenance work being done at the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant (GPP) by the Ghana National Gas Company (GNGC).

The ECG reports that some power facilities will be affected for the next two weeks, resulting in some power outages for customers across the nation.

In a statement, the Energy Ministry pledged that steps would be taken to obtain extra gas from Nigeria in order to counteract the impending negative impacts.

“In order to manage the impact of the shutdown, Government is procuring additional gas from Nigeria, Heavy Fuel Oil (HFO) and Light Crude Oil (LCO) to complement available domestic gas for power generation”

According to a second statement from the Ghana Grid Company Ltd. (GRIDCo), some ECG users will experience a brief disruption in their power delivery.

Appropriately, ECG will publish an outage schedule by Friday, March 31, the statement continued, informing consumers appropriately.
